Home Office Help with a writing desk

by EVS Blog Admin on September 26, 2007

Thanks to many technological advances, as well as the internet, more and more employers are a bit more open-minded about hiring people that work from home or telecommuters as they are commonly known. But that also means an increase of independent contractors, or freelancers, that are competing for jobs.

It can be tough trying to find that type of work so when you do get it you need to make sure that everything about your work is close to perfect and hopefully they will continue using your services and quite possibly recommend you to others. When you are working out of a home office it can be tempting to consider completing other household tasks or have friends and family visit while you are working. This is a common mistake for many people starting out, thus it is imperative that you separate you office life from your home life. That doesn’t mean that if something is wrong you tell your child not now, but if it can wait, be sure to let it. The sooner you get used to this routine, the sooner family and friends realize you do not need to be distracted.

Creating a home office that is comfortable as well as functional is a step in the right direction. You will probably spend a great deal of time at your desk, so you need to make sure it has everything you need close at hand. If you have little reason for a desk then something like the Ellery writing desk would be great because it is just enough room for your needs. However, if your desk is the lifeblood of your work you may want to consider something like a roll-top desk. It has lots of storage for things that you may need but it can also be closed when not in use, effectively hiding all of the clutter.

Whatever way you decide to go make sure you do your best and it will show possible employers your attention to detail and organizational skills.
