Psst…Use Console Tables to Make Your Room Look Expensive
If you have always wanted an expensive looking room but don't have the budget of Victoria Beckham to spend on it, you can get the same looks for a lot less by just using some tricks top interior designers use.
Clutter Lowers Value
First of all, get rid of the clutter in your room. Truly expensive rooms don't have clutter. Go through your room and either find a place for the item that is out of the way or purge it. Purging the item means either tossing it in the trash, giving it to charity or selling it immediately. Don't make a big pile of stuff that you will sell in a garage sale "someday". That defeats the whole purpose of getting organized. Just keep saying to yourself, "Expensive rooms have no clutter". If you have a number of items that you "need"; invest in a cabinet that will add a designer touch to your room as well as keep the clutter under control.
Narrow Down Your Colors
Next, get your color scheme under control. Too many shades and blends of colors can lend a busy look to your room that is decidedly not expensive. Narrow down your color scheme to two main colors and no more than two minor colors. You will want to have the two main colors be the stars of your room and your accents will consist of the two minor colors. A good example is to use your major colors in window treatments and an area rug and use your minor colors on sashes for the drapes and pillows around the room.
Make Your Walls Interesting
This isn't hard to do. Add a fun artwork or even put a collection of your favorite photos or antique post cards in an arrangement on the wall. Create a square, rectangle or even a star with your art or photos. Choose interesting frames. You can even find old, ornate wooden frames at yard sales and add dark stain or gold leaf to give them an elegant touch and a new life.
Use these little tricks to give your room an expensive look and feel and no one has to know you really didn't spend an arm and a leg to do it.
Use Your 5th Wall
Of course that's your ceiling. You can add points of interest for the eye even on your ceiling. Have it painted and textured with an interesting design. Use hammered tin ceiling tiles or even add molding around the upper edge where the wall meets the ceiling, all of these are budget friendly ways to add interest and up the eye value of your room.
Use these tips and create a room you can love and be truly proud of because it may look expensive, but it wasn't!
