You know that old saying, “You never get a second chance to make a first impression” and guess what? It’s very true. People do indeed judge you by how your home looks and no matter how cool your house is decorated, you want to make the first room your guests enter, usually your foyer or entryway, to be a place that just oozes a warm and welcoming vibe.
If your entry way isn’t a large area, make good use of your space. A tall hall tree with a storage space and a backing mirror will do a world of good. The storage bench will keep the area clutter free, the hall tree will have a place to hang coats of not only your own but your guest’s as well and the mirror will do that neat little decorating trip and open up the room by eliminating the wall to the eye of the viewer and the reflection of the mirror opens up space in the mind of the view.
Wall sconces providing soft light is another way to create a cozy welcoming feeling. If the corners of the room aren’t displayed in bright lighting – a small room won’t feel small; it will feel cozy instead. An accent table with a plant, either real or silk is another way to lend a warm feeling to your entry way. Add an interesting piece of art to your area. Make it one of the first things people see when they enter your home. It doesn’t have to be an original, a print that is artfully matted and framed will pull off a beautiful look in your home.
Make your home warm and cozy to all that enter, after all – you really only get one change to make that first impression – make it a good one.
