This was a time when French furniture maker started to experiment with shapes other than the strictly classical designs which had been popular till then. One of the many outcomes of this experimentation was the Bombe chests with their very curved and full lines with lacquered and had painted decoration. By the middle of the century they were prized possession of the French aristocracy. Modern Bombe chests still follow the old design and decoration parameters but are available in a variety of sizes and shades to suit the décor of your home.

You might find it’s a matter of being organized instead of a lack of time. Many people have a basket they toss their mail into with the intent of going through it “later”. Later turns into days or even a week or so later and suddenly you have a pill of bills screaming to be paid, you hurt your best friend’s feelings by forgetting to send them a birthday card and you can’t find your water bill. The time you wasted looking for your bills and correspondence could have been spent actually handling things.

It’s just a matter of getting organized. You don’t need a huge desk, an old fashioned secretary desk will sit quietly in the corner of a room and not take up much space. The front of the desk will pull up and latch so you can leave items out on the desktop that you’re in the middle of and you don’t have to worry about prying eyes or toddler hands “helping” you or moving anything. When the lid is up and in the latched position, no one can see anything you’re working on.

Make a place for bills to be paid and bills that you have paid. Set up a calendar and buy greeting cards in advance and put the in a file folder to have handy so when you do find that you’ve overlooked the odd birthday, you can pop a card you already have on hand in the mail and make sure your well wishes are sent.

See? You aren’t really stressed and overwhelmed, it’s just a matter of getting organized – and it didn’t hurt a bit!

Do you do a lot of entertaining or even just have a large family that always has something going on? If so, entertainment furnishings are a big part of your decor. This type of furnishing can be anything from a regular television stand to an entertainment center to house your television, stereo equipment, etc.

If you would like to tidy up your living room or den and still have easy access to your television or stereo, choosing an entertainment center over a television stand is a great idea. Many of them come with shelves and drawers along with doors that can be closed when not in use giving it a cleaner look.

They also come in many designs and colors, the sleek cool look of chrome and glass or the more traditional solid wood, that also comes in different types and colors. If you prefer the wood styling but like the openness of glass that normally comes with the chrome, consider getting one in a curio cabinet style. They are made of wood, yet the doors are glass, allowing for the more open appearance.

If you have your heart set on something different consider the unique styling of a Quadra Jukebox Entertainment center with its very unique jukebox shape. It would be a great conversation starter at your next party.

Whatever you choose remember to keep it sized proportionately to the rest of the room and your furnishings.

<g:plusone size="standard" count="" href="http://blog.onlytables.com/2007/10/09/the-hope-chest/"></g:plusone>

It was called a bride’s dowry and was a coming of age ritual for many women until the 1950’s. Filling the dowry was a common step on the road to marriage, between dating a man and becoming engaged. It was typically filled with clothing (normally a special dress) along with linens, towels, etc. Although the age of having a dowry is gone the idea itself is still going, in the form of Hope or Cedar chest and is a very stylish and practical piece of furnishing.

The most common place for a hope or cedar chest is the bedroom and it is very convenient for storing things that may be needed in the bedroom. Some items it could store include linens, sheets, extra blankets and pillows. This makes sense when you consider the most popular location for a chest is at the foot of the bed. Of course, you may place it anywhere you like.

If you choose to have one against a wall then ataller chest would be perfect and could be used to display a collection or knick knacks. If you want one for the end of the bed you need to choose something smaller and not as tall. They come in many more styles then they used to making it possible to add this piece of furniture and have it fit in with the rest of the room. Just be sure to follow the theme as much as possible when adding a chest to your home.

Yet, is often the most overlooked when it comes to decorating. Adding to your entryway can make the whole house look different and more together.

When considering what type of furnishings to use, the size is very important. If you choose something large it may overpower the room, yet something small may get lost in a larger area.

Some type of table for the entry is a good idea as it can become a place that you put your keys when you come home, reducing the chance of having to hunt for them every day. Or, keep a pad of paper and pens or pencils and use it for a place that family members can leave notes for one another. If it is one central location then everyone will know where to look for messages if needed.

Depending on the styles you prefer you can choose a table that fits right into the rest of your furnishings. There are some with simple clean lines, or ones that come with an accent mirror for a little extra touch. If you plan on using it for storage also, for linens or whatever else you may need, then a hall console chestwould be perfect as they have drawers and cabinets to help conceal the storage, yet are elegant enough to be just what was needed for the hall.

Whatever you decide just keep the size and style of your current furnishings so that it complements the rest of your home.
