The reason is simple. It’s not created to outfit your whole house. It’s created to accentuate what you have already. It’s there to make your house look fuller, to fill in those spaces that look so empty without it. So keep in mind when purchasing accent furniture that it is going to be small and it’s going to be designed to go with the rest of the items in the house to enhance it.

A beautifully furnished living room or hallway with books, CDs, keys, magazines and newspapers lying around in every corner, will only nullify the purpose of the beautiful home décor. Everyone in the family uses the hall, and therefore the furniture gets dumped with belongings. Hall cabinets are ideal for organizing and storing your daily paraphernalia so that it does not get piled up. Hall cabinets are mostly fitted below or above eye level and cleverly conceal your items of daily use.

So how to decorate a china cabinet can be a tricky question to ask. It all depends on what the cabinet is used for. China cabinets aren’t just used for dinnerware anymore. You can also use a china cabinet to store curios and just general knickknacks. Let’s look at the traditional china cabinet first. Learning how to stain tables is a wise thing to know, as that is a way to allow some of your pieces of furniture to last many more years than they may have otherwise. This is a time of year when you should go around and check all of your wood tables. Take a look at how they are doing. Have they been used a lot and are starting to show signs of wear and tear? Not only does that make them less attractive to look at, but it also can make them more prone to the wood underneath the finish being damaged. You see, if the stain has been removed from the surface through nicks and scratches that is wood that has been left vulnerable to whatever else it comes in contact with. It’s time to learn how to stain tables.

A demilune is an ideal addition to your entryway, foyer or any place in your home that your want to add a little bit of open table space without compromising any of your floorspace. The demilune design takes up so little floor space and will be an ideal place to put photos, personal trinkets or a place for guests to toss their car keys when they visit.

And don’t think a demilune design is limited to just tables with small tops and long narrow legs. There are a large number of designs and styles to choose from in the demilune design. For example. a demilune-style console table will look fabulous and accent a long, narrow entry way.

Another great idea is to add a demilune chest instead of a table. This will keep clutter in a small area down to a minimum and you still have the top space to use for setting items upon or even adding a lamp or vase of fresh flowers .

A demilune is a very functional style of furniture. If you have an area of your home that you feel needs some waking up – go for the great look of a demilune piece!

This is an interior decor look that is not for the shy. Baroque in the literal definition means irregular or contorted. This style originated in Italy around the 1600′s and the popularity of this style of decor has not diminished and is still in use in present day homes and a large number of architectural designs.

A Baroque piece or two will add a great accent to an otherwise drab room or make yourself an entire Baroque room. Twisted columns, large, irregular curves, elaborate scrolls, oversize moldings, and inlaid wood floor designs characterize the Baroque style. Think theater, domes and Italian architecture of the 1600′s.

Wood and marble designs and flecks of gold and silver here and there are hallmarks of the baroque decor style. Add an accent table with baroque elements to put up the tempo in your room. Add small touches of baroque around your room with the use of table runners, vases and more.

Go ahead, go baroque – you’ll love the look!

But what? Chances are good you can answer your dilemma by adding a simple accent piece. Accent pieces are used to pull a room together and give continuity to your room’s design. An accent piece can be practically any item used to make your room “flow”.

From a smartly placed chair next to a small table that holds a globe or a small cedar chest to a bench with some comfy pillows placed on it, the accent pieces are entirely up to you and whatever your imagination can come up with.

If your decor is in the French Country design, go for something in a linen or rust tone to really bring out the whole decor of your room. If shabby chic is what your room favors there are a number of items you can use to tie your entire design into a whole cozy feeling emanating from the room. Items like a small table finished in a distressed look to a rug in the shabby chic style that ties together one or more colors in your room.

There is a line when using accent pieces. Don’t overdo it or you’ll go from adding lovely accents that pull your entire interior design together to simply adding clutter.

Clocks are often overlooked accent pieces. A simple clock can make a guest’s eyes flow from a painting hanging on the wall to an accent piece clock to another painting or perhaps a table with a sculpture on it.

Consider something that won’t take up a lot of space and is something they can really use – a decorative wall mirror.

A mirror can add a designer touch to any room in the house. In a foyer or entryway, it will create a handy place for guests to check their hair and look both coming and going. In the living room a mirror will give the room a feel of having more room and will also reflect light when used in a darkened corner.

In the bedroom a mirror can double over a small console table as a sometime vanity and place to do a final hair and clothing check before dashing out for the day.

As you can see, a mirror is a multifaceted and useful gift – if you need a housewarming present and you’ve had a tough time making a decision – go for the mirror!

This fun style brings the elements of country decor into your home with a twist. The furniture is usually distressed and softer colors are usually used. It’s an easy to do interior style that is cozy and comfy in feel. Once you get started on the shabby chic journey, you may find yourself wanting to transform most or all of the rooms in your house.

A great way to bring a bit of shabby chic into your living space is by inviting in the warm design into your room in small ways. Start off with a pair of lightly colored chairs and then add in a table. Remember, Shabby Chic doesn’t have to match – the idea to blend the colors and overall look and not worry if every piece is a carbon copy of another one. It’s okay to have a few different types of chairs in the room with different types of upholstery, your goal is make sure their colors all work together.

Another easy and lovely way to bring shabby chic into your home is by adding some art or photos in some simple wooden frames. You can distress wood frames yourself by painting with primer and then when that dries, applying a coat of paint. Then take a piece of steel wool and rub it along where you have painted. It will remove some of the paint and create interesting lines and give you a great distressed look for your decor.

If you’re ready to make a change to your interior design, go for the relaxing feel of Shabby Chic!

If you want a cozier feeling room, you’ll have to create the illusion your ceilings are lower.

A lovely way that you can make your ceilings seem lower is to add something decorative and wonderful to the ceilings themselves. Decorative ceiling tins or ceiling tiles is one way to do it and then take the design or elements of the design such as a shape used to other areas in your room.

Another great way that you can bring your ceilings down a bit would be the addition of a taller piece of furniture. A Mayferry Secretary Cabinet will do dual duty of making your ceilings seem lower along with hiding away you items until they are needed and keeping your room clutter to a bare minimum. At 89 1/2 inches in height this is a stunning piece to add to your interior decor.

Also you can create large spreads of paintings and framed photos that go all the way up your walls to your ceiling. You have the glorious wall space – use it!

Use these tips and make your room feel cozier for the holidays!

Not only just finding the time to do it, but also affording it. If you get organized, you’ll find it’s easy to get the look you want without spending an arm and a leg. The secret is to just change a little at a time and soon you’ll have an entirely new look for the room that didn’t hurt your pocketbook one bit.

Your main expense will be found in your larger furniture items in your room. You will need to decide if you’re going to keep your sofa, love seat and other items in the room such as an entertainment center. If you do choose to keep them, remember often you can reupholster chairs and sofas a lot cheaper than buying a new one and if the frame of your furniture is in good shape, this may be a very budget friendly alternative. Making your own or purchasing slip covers is another idea that can save you on furniture as well as let you get a new color scheme into the room. Add a small accent table or two to your decor and grace them with your favorite photos or other small item that will draw the eye of the viewer.

Make sure you choose neutral colors and you can get years of use out of them by just adding or changing various accents around them. A light beige sofa for example will meld exquisitely into a showpiece when paired with boldly colored pillows and placed in front of an area rug that has the same bold coloring.

Your lighting is another consideration. You can change the entire mood of your room simply by changing around the way the light is distributed within it. Dimly lit rooms tend to be cozy and inviting. Bright lighting will lend a bright and vibrant atmosphere.

Window treatments are another change you can make that won’t break your bank account. Choose your colors depending on the look and feel you want in your room. Dark, heavy fabrics can make a room seem smaller, light fabrics will help open up a room and can actually help a small room feel larger.

Plants will add a touch of life to your room. Many people feel relaxed just having several plants in their living space. If you have a corner space that needs a little “something” – try adding a tall yucca, indoor palm or rubber tree to carry your design around the room.

Use these tips and before you know it, you’ll have a whole new look to enjoy!

Pots and pans can take up room unless you learn to stack them and put them in a tight spot and impulse shoppers can wind up with cupboards full of spices and packaged products they will never use.

It’s a good idea to periodically clean out your cupboards, get organized and throw out anything that has been open a long time or is past its expiration date. Then go through and see how much save you can save by stacking plastic containers together and nesting items in one another wherever possible.

Another way you can make sure you’re getting the most out of your kitchen space is to put only functional items in it. A breakfast nook with storage spaces in the seating benches is a great way to stash away extra tablecloths, place mats, napkins, or other items that might otherwise be taking up valuable cabinet space.

A baker’s rackis another way to have functional beauty in your kitchen. You can put pots, plants, dishes or cookbooks on a baker’s rack and they will be elegantly displayed and off the counter tops and out of the cupboards.

Look around your kitchen and make the most out of your space, you may be amazed at how large your kitchen area actually is.

Most parents say it took about a month or so for them to get used to the fact their child didn’t live at home anymore and then you realize, you have a completely empty and unused extra room.

You may suddenly find yourself planning many things for your extra room. You can use that extra room to create a guest room, busy room or other room of your choice. If you have always wanted to have an extra guest room, now is your chance and if you need the room to do double duty as a room for sewing, painting, home office or other hobbies/ventures you can do that too.

If you don’t entertain a lot, you can easily make a room have a dual purpose by being functional for yourself and also comfortable for guests. If you have always wanted a nook of your own for sewing or painting, you can have it along with a comfy place for guests to sleep as well.

First of all, you want to be able to make your room look like a cozy place to sleep instead of a place where you enjoy piddling around with your craft projects and making someone sleep around the inevitable clutter that happens. You can hide your hobbies by utilizing a cabinet with doors to keep your clutter in the room to a minimum and another item that will suffice nicely for a place to sit as well as a place for guests to sleep is a comfy daybed. If you get short notice company is coming you can clear the room quickly by putting your projects into a cabinet with doors and making up a daybed to be a cozy place to snooze.

You don’t have to change a lot of elements to make a room function as a guest bedroom and a place to call your own. Just make keeping clutter to a minimum and make sure every item in the room has a function, cabinets, shelves, etc… and you’re off to a great start!

Since the advent of CDs the clutter factor has risen in many homes. It’s easy to wind up with a large number of CDs and no matter how straight you stack them on the corner of your stereo stand – it still looks like a cluttered, jumbled mess. Instead of hiding them away – make them part of your design on a wall mount stereo shelf.

If you haven’t seen a stereo shelf yet, they are fast becoming a common item in many homes and especially teen rooms. The shelf holds a small stereo and two speakers – with a line of CDs or DVDs underneath. If you have an MP3 player and you use a home box to blast the tunes over it – a stereo shelf will hold your iPod or other player beautifully.

Finding a way to have more storage space and add some interest to your decor is a win-win situation. You get to rid yourself of the clutter that tends to happen in a room that is used a lot and you can have an attractive place to store your items. Best of all, this sturdy shelf only takes up less than a foot and a half of space on either side so it is very small space friendly.

Would you make you even more interested to know that you only need one to two items to pull off these feat of magic?

The answer can be found in the humble mirror. The way most designers use mirrors is to bring light into a room as well as hang a mirror or even a pair of mirrors on the wall that is as far away from the entrance doorway as possible, yet is facing that doorway. The way this illusion works is very simple and just plays on a trick of the brain. When you enter a room and your eyes see that there are mirrors on the far end of the wall, the brain will actually interpret this as a feeling of more space.

It doesn’t matter if you use mirrors with intricate frames or simple polished wood frames, either way it’s the size of the mirror on the wall that matters the most. Use large sized mirrors or the impact of this trick will be lost. It doesn’t work to use a small mirror. You want your mirror to be a minimum of 30 inches tall and a 15-inches wide – and remember bigger is better when you’re pulling design tricks!

This is great for two reasons, it is quite a bit less expensive than a full makeover and it does not take nearly as much time.

Accessories can go a long way towards adding personality to a room. By using a common color to pull everything together you can consider just adding different pillows and throws. Don’t be afraid to use one large item by itself as they can have a tremendous impact on a room.

Mirrors make a great addition to a room; try positioning it so that it reflects something interesting in the room. To increase the visual impact of a mirror consider hanging a floral swag across it. Or another option is to place small paintings or decorative sconces or lamps on either side of the mirror. To make it a little more interesting trying taking several mirrors and grouping them according to sizes and shapes. The only thing to really remember is that if you hang a mirror that has been framed with molding be sure that it complements the rest of the accessories in the room.

You know that plants and greenery can give a room both softness and texture. They work really well around a mirror, whether by trailing a long piece of ivy across the mirror or placing it on a small shelf in front of the mirror so that it is reflected in the mirror. There are endless possibilities when accessorizing with mirrors.

Perhaps it is the idea that a bathroom is used for very specific uses, or it could even be that many people like to keep this space very clean and organized. However, there is no reason why you cannot keep in line with cleanliness and organization while still making sure that you have a beautiful space to visit.

Since the bathroom is a place that needs to have a certain level of functionality, it is only right that you would want to make sure that you have ample space to store a number of accessories and toiletries. While many bathrooms often have a countertop set up along with a couple of drawers and even a medicine cabinet above, there is usually still a need for more storage space. This is when a beautiful cabinet will come in very handy, making your bathroom space livable and easily accessible for all.

The Linden Cabinet happens to be an amazing choice for any bathroom, simply because it is elegant while still having a good amount of space where you can store your bathroom linens as well as extra soaps, cleaning supplies and much more. As long as you think of your accessibility as well as the aesthetics of the room, you will end up with great bathroom accessories such as this cabinet, which is guaranteed to make your life easier.
